Why are chip beads usally cheaper then its round counterpart?
Are they easier to make or do beadworkers just prefer them more?
As chips are generally gemstones(whether precious or semi-precious), I’m going to assume that is to what you are referring.
The reason for the disparity in pricing is that chips can be, essentially, any portion of the stone since they have no specific “shape”, thus they can be made from the scraps. Round beads, or, in fact, any “shaped” bead, have to be cut from a larger stone, therefore requiring both labor and a larger quantity of “raw” product.
