The History of Heart Disease – Medical Facts Date Back to Egyptian Times
Overview Of The History Of Heart Disease
The history of heart disease contains some quite interesting facts. The world’s understanding of the importance of the heart and heart disease in relation to our health, has changed dramatically over the thousands of years since ancient times.
There are records that date back as far as ancient Egyptian times about this major organ of our body. The medical world has researched the history of heart disease, and sees heart disease to be much more common in our modern age.
Ancient Egyptians understood the vital importance of the heart to keep the body healthy. Egyptian’s thought the heart had a supernatural part in one’s existence. The heart was thought of in the same way in some aspects, between the Far East and the ancient Egyptians.
Ancient Egypt’s Beliefs About The Heart
These ancient Egyptian archaeological discoveries tell us that they believed the seat of personality and of human wisdom originates in the heart. Their understanding was that there were pathways from the heart, leading to other areas of the body. It was thought that these pathways or channels, provided a way for the various parts of the body to receive a flow of fluid such as blood or nutrients. It was thought that a blocked channel would create disease.
Many believed that personality, human awareness, emotions, and even the soul… all had their root in the heart. Everyone knows even today, we talk about the heart as if our feelings and emotions come from it. The ancient Egyptians thought God used our hearts to communicate with us. A common thing to say is, “She has a broken heart”. It would be very interesting to go back in time and visit that point in history.
History Of Heart Disease And The Middle Ages
Research on the history of heart disease of the English speaking people in the middle ages, indicate they did not have much disease caused by cholesterol. In the middle ages the Briton’s did not often experience cardiovascular disease. The natural state of the food consumed back then, was not altered by the processing of food, as it is today. Little wonder they had a much lower rate of incidence of heart problems such as heart disease.
The Modern Age And Cardiovascular Disease
In pre-industrial times, medical research on the history of heart disease, tells us that most people did not suffer from heart ailments and subsequent death from cardiovascular disease.
In the 19th century the industrial revolution came in full force. Congestive heart disease became more widespread, perhaps because of the industrial age and a decrease in the need for physical labour jobs. Prior to the industrial revolution, much more physical labour was required to keep industry moving. The body and the heart were kept healthy and strong by physical labour. Another related bonus of having to do physical work, is the break down of fatty accumulations in the heart and other areas of the body.
The Modern Age And Diet
As we all know nowadays, the foods we eat play a huge role in the possibility of whether or not we will have any cardiovascular ailments. Maximize your heart’s health by not eating or eating very little, the types of foods that contain trans fatty acids, salt, and saturated fats. Foods like fries cooked at high temperatures by deep-frying may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. There are a number of additives found in canned foods and these additives may adversely affect our health. Foods such as fruits, raw vegetables, and nuts, are better for us than processed foods. Eat nutritious foods and keep exercising the body on a regular basis, then… we may not become a statistic in the books of the future of the history of heart disease.
