Which nails / screws to use for metal drywall corner bead?
I’m getting ready to put the drywall corner bead around a couple window openings. The drywall is in place using screws.
I presume drywall screws wouldn’t be a good idea to use to attach the bead; the heads would either tend to bend the metal or stick out a little – or so it seems.
Are standard drywall screws the prescribed method for nailing on the bead?
I also have quite a few leftover 1″ and 1-1/2″ roofing nails. Because of their thin, flat heads I’d be tempted to say these could work; only the shaft is a bit thick and non-ribbed.
I’d like to hear from some people experienced with installing bead as to what they’ve had success with in installing bead.
Use 1-5/8″ black phosphate #8 course thread drywall screws. Apply with a variable speed gun. This reduces any deforming caused by the screws.
Don’t use the galvy roofing nails, there will be a reaction to the topping compound & corrosion stains will bleed thru the paint.
