Can I have a blued finish pistol Nickel plated?
I was told that its not possible because it changes the tolerances but I saw an old pistol on Flickr that had been nickel plated so I guess it can be done. And does anyone know how much it would cost?
The short answer is no. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t technically possible, but it would be a massive pain for mediocre results at pretty high expense.
First, you would need to completely disassemble the pistol. Then, all of the bluing would have to be removed to get it back to bare metal. It would then have to be thoroughly cleaned. You would then have to find some way of masking off areas like the inside of the barrel that you don’t want plated. The plating itself adds thickness, so it would have to be a very thin coat which wouldn’t provide that high gloss shine. You would then have to ream out all of the screw holes. Assuming that you are able to properly reassemble it without screwing up the plating job, the finish would not be nearly as durable as factory nickel plating. If you want a nickel plated pistol, your best bet is to find a factory nickel plated model, which had all of these things taken in to account at the time of manufacture.
