If Sterling Silver jewelry is plated, how long will it take to wear off? I’ve had a SS necklace since?
November, I wear it a lot, I polished it once, and it has the .925 stamp on it. If it was plated would the silver have begun to wear off by know?
Sterling silver jewelry is not normally plated, unless it’s rhodium plated. Since the plating is the same colour, you don’t really notice the wear. If you necklace was plated, you would probably see some wear by now. The more you wear plated jewelry, get it wet, polish it, get it in contact with hair spray, perfume, etc, the quicker the plating wears off.
