Do you have to use batting to make a rag quilt/blanket?
I went and got all of my fabric and forgot to get batting. Can you make a rag quilt/blanket without batting and just have the front and back? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Rag quilts are often made without true batting, although instead some people choose to use three layers of fabric (flannels are especially good) instead. If you’re doing a flannel rag quilt, an extra layer of flannel would work very well. If you’re doing a denim rag quilt, you definitely do not need batting as the weight of the denim is sufficient, even if it’s only on one side. If you’ve chosen to use regular cotton fabric or homespun fabric, you might want another layer of something to give it more substance. If you decide to add batting, be sure to cut the batting squares smaller than the fabric squares – you don’t want the batting to be exposed in the seam allowances.
