i sew baby and toddler dresses. so far, i have been using quilting cotton but i find it to be a little too?
thick. i am looking for a lighter weight cotton but do not know what this might be called: poplin? lawn? calico? voile? does anyone know the best cotton for this purpose? i am looking for something lightweight but not sheer.

thanks, everyone! is cotton batiste very expensive? what about calico? i have noticed it is cheaper than quilting cotton. would this be OK for toddler’s dresses? i would like to pay no more than $5/yd. thanks for your help! sue
