What’s the best way to handle the whole Christmas/Santa Claus thing?
I would really love to teach my son (22 1/2 months) that Santa Claus is just a symbol of Christmas instead of making believe that he is real. What is the best way to do this?
I feel sad that you don’t want your child to ‘believe’ in Santa. In our house we know that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, but there is also something magical in seeing your young child ‘believing’ in Santa. As the kids got older, and the other kids would tell there was no such thing, I would always tell them, that the day you stop believing in Santa, is the day you stop receiving gifts from Santa, but as long as you believe in Santa, and the kindness and warmth and togetherness that he represents, then you will continue to get presents from Santa. Santa has always been more of the magical feeling of Christmas in our house.
