Difference between regular knife and wood carving knife?
So recently I saw a folding wood carving knife. Looked like a regular knife (even though the handle was in a unique design) to me. How do knives designed for wood carving differ from a regular knife?
Normally a wood carving knife has a larger handle and a proportionately smaller blade than an ordinary pocket knife which is made to take up as little space as possible during the majority of the time it spends in the pocket. The larger handle increases the grip area and the shorter blade increases the leverage or force the hand can supply to the wood since carving normally involves taking off small amounts of detailed wood rather than reducing the size of the wood in by large pieces. Chip carving knives have even smaller blades – 1.5 inches or so – with regular fist filling handles.
