Can someone help me with this math?
I’m making my prom dress out of duct tape and for just the skirt I need 9.75 yds of 45” fabric.
each roll of duct tape comes with 60yds of 2” wide tape.
since I will need to overlap the tape a bit I figure I can get 1.6 inches out of one 2” strip.
how many yards of tape will it take to make a 36” by 45” rectangle?
(36” being one yard)
I’m sorry if this doesn’t make sense….I’m so horrible at math. >.<;;

Sorry there was a lot of numbers there and I have slight dyslexia so I had a hard time figuring out what you were saying....
I think you are saying how many yards of tape will it take to make 36″ X 45″ rectangle, if the tape overlaps 0.4″ (1.6″ for each 2″ strip). I’ll assume that the strips are 36″ long, so the overlaps will be in the 45″ direction. 45″/1.6″ = 28.125 (we will make it 29 strips). 29 strips 1 yard long (36″) = 29 yards for each 45″ X 36″…..answer
Now remember, there was considerable wastage, and it might be recovered in the measurement somehow. It’s actually closer to 28 than 29, but then we have portions of strips. A better way might be 45″ lengths. 45/36 = 1.25 yds. To get 9.75 yds we need 9.75/1.25 = 7.8 yds long X 36 in/yd = 280.8 inches long. So, to get a tape ‘cloth’ 45″ X 280.8″ with strips that overlap we need 280.8/1.6 = 175.5 or 176 strips 45 inches long or 7920 inches / 36 inches/yd = 220 yards of tape.

EDIT: Just happened to check to see if you had commentd and saw your update. Lets do this as a check. The tape width is 1.6 inches / 12 in./ ft / 3 ft/yd = 0.0444 yds in width measured in yds
This times the length should give us the amount of cloth we get, so:
0.0444 yds X 220 yds of tape give us 9.78 yds of material…..close enough to your goal of 9.75. So yes, you need 220 yds of tape
